Rubber moldings

Precision Rubber Mouldings

We’re a specialist rubber mouldings manufacturer with over 30 years of extensive expertise in the production of mouldings for a wide range of applications and industries, both niche, bespoke requirements and industry-standard products.

At our facilities, we produce prototype samples and short runs using single-cavity compression moulds and bulk runs involving multi-cavity injection moulding. We offer rubber to metal and other substrate-bonded products and have in-house post-curing facilities for silicone and fluoroelastomer mouldings.

Mould design is not straightforward; allowance has to be made for air relief, shrinkage, and practical extraction of the finished product without damage, we do all this with the highest precision. Our engineering facility designs and produces simple moulds in-house, and our specialist mould-making partners construct more complex moulds.

Materials We Work With

Nufox works with a comprehensive range of elastomers and polymers, carefully selected for their specific properties to meet the demands of various applications. Our materials include nitrile (NBR) and hydrogenated Nitrile (HNBR) for superior oil and heat resistance, and PVC nitrile, valued for its flexibility and durability. For applications requiring excellent weatherability, we use EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber) and neoprene (polychloroprene). Then, there are high-performance materials like chlorosulphonated polyethylene (CSM), also known as hypalon, provide chemical resistance.

For more specialised applications, we work with butyl (IR) and natural rubber (NR), alongside advanced compounds like styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) and silicone (SI). We can also use fluoro Ssilicone (FVMQ) and fluoroelastomers (FKM), such as viton and aflas, known for their excellent abrasion and chemical resistance, thermal conductivity, and dielectric strength. Additionally, we work with polyurethane and TPE for enhanced versatility in high-demand environments.

To settle on the best compound for the job, we analyse shore hardness (Shore A), compression set, tensile strength, and elongation at break. Whether you need components with exceptional weatherability, compression strength, or superior durability, we’ll make the right recommendation.

Our Rubber Moulding Process

Rubber moulding is a multi-step process that requires precision, expertise, and adaptability to meet the specific requirements of each customer. Every stage of production is tailored to the selected material, application, and desired characteristics, for high-quality results.

Step 1: Material Selection: The process begins with selecting the appropriate elastomer or polymer for the application. Factors such as tolerance, cure time, and required properties—like resistance to chemicals, heat, or wear—determine whether we use materials such as EPDM, silicone, or nitrile. Additives like plasticisers, filler materials, antioxidants, and UV stabilisers are incorporated as needed to enhance performance.

Step 2: Mould Design and Prototyping: Our expert engineers design custom moulds with precision to account for factors like shrinkage and air relief, whether it’s a straightforward mould or a complex multi-part assembly. For unique requirements, we offer reverse engineering from damaged or legacy components.

Step 3: Manufacturing Methods: Nufox uses advanced methods of compression moulding, injection moulding, and transfer moulding to produce components of varying complexities. Each method is selected based on the material and application.

Step 4: Post-Moulding Treatments: Our in-house processes include vulcanisation to enhance material properties, post-curing for silicone and fluoroelastomers, and meticulous flash trimming or deflashing to ensure a flawless finish. Techniques like bonding and overmoulding are employed for specialised applications, such as rubber-to-metal bonding.

Step 5: Finishing and Quality Control: If needed, final components undergo stitching, annealing, and rigorous quality checks to confirm adherence to client specifications. Nufox’s bespoke manufacturing capabilities ensure every part, from prototype to bulk production, meets the highest precision and performance standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the process work?

We can take your concept through design, sampling, to finished product in-house, with complete control throughout. We have a number of processing options, and our total in-house control of design, manufacturing and tooling ensures that we can maintain timelines and achieve your delivery expectations.

Are your products bespoke?

Yes, at Nufox we provide you with a product that is totally compatible to your design and functional requirements.

Are there minimum order quantities?

No, but many of our products require tooling development, processing machine set up and compound selection. So the costs involved in this process have to be allocated to the project. But if a small quantity is required for fit and function, this can be accommodated.

What are the lead times for a product?

If the product is a new development requiring tooling, this can often be less than four weeks. However if the project is complex and requires a specially formulated compound, this can be longer. Once we have your enquiry, we are able to give you an indicative production time.
